The first step in the establishment of our physical home will be to incorporate the Museum of Portuguese Jewish History. This will allow us to be granted tax-exempt status.
The direct benefits of the museum as a non-profit corporation:
- In the case of legal action involving the museum, its members are protected. The corporation is the legal entity that would be responsible.
- Any money donated to the corporation is tax-deductible. This will enable us to raise money for operating funds more easily, and help us to secure more structured donations and sponsorship.
- Incorporation will bring the museum public credibility and guarantee our longevity through a Board of Trustees.
